Tracking pooled pallet shipments in Excel
No WMS? A simple shipment log that's enough for a monthly pallet audit, and how to keep Excel from mangling your numbers.
The log
One row per shipment: ship date, customer, customer location number, BOL, pallets, pallet type. One row per receipt: date, supplier, PO, pallets, pallet type.
Add a column for the date you declared it to the pallet company: late declarations show up at a glance.
Keep the numbers intact
Import CSVs with Data > From Text/CSV and set reference columns to Text. Excel drops leading zeros and keeps only 15 significant digits, which breaks BOL, PO and 18-digit SSCC numbers.
